Community Bus Hire

Hiring a community bus

We have two buses available for hire by our community, driven by our volunteer bus drivers.

Once you've read through the below information, please email mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au or call the program officer on (08) 9272 0957 and we'll send you an application form.

Who can hire a bus?

Not-for-profit community groups, clubs or schools that have their primary base of operation within the City of Bayswater can hire a bus for no fee.

Other City of Bayswater community organisations, including for-profit groups, can hire the bus for a low fee

All user groups must read and comply with the Community Bus Hire Conditions of Hire. You can view this document on this page, and it is also attached to the Application Form.

Conditions of hire

Please read the Conditions of Hire and FAQs before contacting the City to make a bus booking.

How much does it cost?

Not-for-profit community groups, clubs and schools that have their primary base of operation in the City of Bayswater will not be charged a hire fee. All bus hirers are required to pay for fuel.

Please note, after the eighth hire in one financial year, these groups will need to pay the $25 hire fee (this is to ensure the buses are available for equal use by all our many not-for-profit groups).

Other community organisations or for-profit groups can pay a $25 fee to hire a community bus.

Anyone who hires a bus will need to pay for their own fuel. Failure to do so will result in a fine according to our Schedule of Fees and Charges.

If you have any questions, please give us a call on (08) 9272 0957.

How do we organise a driver?

Both of our buses are only allowed to be driven by the City's volunteer bus drivers. We do not allow the buses to be driven by any other drivers for insurance reasons.

Please contact our Community Development Team on (08) 9272 0957 and our support officer will organise a driver for your journey.

Where do I go to refuel the bus?

Your volunteer driver will refuel the bus with the appropriate fuel (at your cost) at a service station on the return journey to the City's Depot. Failure to refuel the bus will incur charges, as set out in the City's Annual Schedule of Fees and Charges.

Can I submit my bus bookings for the next six or 12 months at one time?

Bus bookings cannot be made more than three months in advance.

Our group usually goes to Mandurah at Christmas. As this is outside the 100km round trip boundary for travel, does it mean we can't go there?

If you wish to submit an application for travel outside the 100km round trip boundary, please clearly state the purpose of your journey and your application will be considered by the Manager of Community Development.

Can our group hire the bus in the evening or on weekends?

Bus hire is available from Monday to Friday between 8am and 3.45pm. There is no service available on weekends, and evening bookings are at the discretion of the Manager of Community Development.
