Invitation for a School Incursion

Attention: Teachers Years 5-6

The City of Bayswater is starting its 2014 school visits program. We provide an interactive classroom session that students enjoy and through their participation, will be rewarded by the use of small prizes.

Topics covered during the incursion will include;

- Voting and the three tiers of government;
- The structure of Council and the four Wards system;
- The structure of local government;
- Roles and responsibilities of the City of Bayswater;
- Boundaries + facts and figures about the City of Bayswater; and
- A reference booklet that also covers the early days of the City, the significance of the emblem, plus a revision sheet and crossword puzzle.

Class Excursion Opportunity

Attention: Teachers Years 5-6

The City of Bayswater would like to invite your class to experience a ”Mock Council” meeting in the City’s Council Chambers

During this excursion, your class will experience:

- A walk through to view a timeline of photographs of Councillors from days gone by 
- Experience being seated in the Council Chamber environment 
- Participate in allocated roles such as Mayor, Councillors, Chief Executive Officer, Directors
- Format of a Council Meeting
- Participate in the decision making process
- Protocols to be followed during a council meeting
- Hypothetical agenda items

...all this will be scripted, (the script will be provided by the City as part of the experience).

In addition, the excursion will be enhanced by the pre-excursion activities that will be provided.
