Community Workshops have Strong Sporting Focus

Posted on January 20, 2017
The City of Bayswater will run a series of free workshops in February, May and June for sporting clubs in the area.

The workshops will offer sport and recreation clubs the chance to learn from industry leaders about important topics such as liquor licencing, creating safe clubs for children, KidSport administration and the new Associations Incorporation Act.

"Sporting Clubs are run almost exclusively by volunteers, so opportunities like this that can increase both skills and knowledge are vital to ensure healthy and prosperous community clubs," Mayor Barry McKenna said.

"The City is proud to have the support from the Department of Sport and Recreation and Lotterywest to offer this valuable resource to our community."

The workshop series is being held as part of the City's Blue Ribbon Program, which assists local sporting clubs to grow and develop by improving the skills, knowledge and practices of clubs and their volunteers.

It is funded by the Department of Sport and Recreation and delivered in partnership with the City of Swan.

"Clubs provide people with an avenue to be physically active and involved in their community, so it’s a priority for the City to ensure that our clubs are equip to succeed," Mayor McKenna added.

The first workshop will be held on Monday, 6 February at the City of Bayswater Civic Centre and will focus on KidSport.
