Ninja inspired warrior wall given the green light

Posted on August 25, 2017
Russell Park in Morley will soon boast a ninja warrior style obstacle course thanks to the City's successful bid to secure $87,000 in grant funding from Lotterywest.

City of Bayswater Mayor Barry McKenna said the new park was sure to be hit with young people.

"The City is keen to create an activity based space for young people in the heart of Morley. With the success of shows such as Australian Ninja Warrior and events like Mud Rush we thought an obstacle course complete with a ninja warrior style wall might be just the thing.

"Exercise is such an important part of our daily lives - it keeps you fit and lifts your mood. What better way to combine the benefits of exercise with the thrill of an obstacle course.

"The 10 station obstacle course includes the turbo challenge which encourages users to propel themselves through the air using only their arms, cliff hanger, rotating balance beam, wall turns and a double scaling wall as well as traditional favourites such as monkey bars, stepping logs, a slack rope and rock wall.

"To complete the course users will have to try their luck at the ninja warrior style climbing wall.

"The course itself is designed to improve balance and coordination, build strength and endurance.

"We are looking forward to providing a space where young people can gather together, have fun and enjoy the open space.

"Lotterywest grant funding will also provide for seating, lighting and the installation of the obstacle course.

Located next to Bunnings, Russell Street Park is currently an underutilised overflow area for stormwater. Prior to the installation of the obstacle course, the City will remove existing Park fencing, work to control weeds, and undertake landscaping works.

"The 'pop up' park and obstacle course will remain in place until the City's long term vision for its transformation into a central park for Morley takes shape.
