Public Comments Extended on Meltham Structure Plan

Posted on February 24, 2017
Following a number of approaches by the City, the WA Planning Commission (WAPC) has extended the public comment period on the Meltham Station Precinct Structure Plan until Tuesday, 14 March 2017.

The extension reflects the high level of interest from local residents in the structure plan, which was prepared independently of the City by a private developer.

Mayor Barry McKenna said it was important that the community had time to comment on the plan.

"The Meltham Station Structure Plan will shape the development of the area so it is vital that community members are given sufficient time to review it and provide feedback," Mayor McKenna said.

This is the first time a structure plan, prepared by a private developer, has come before Council for consideration. While the WAPC is the decision-making body, Council will make a recommendation on whether it supports, does not support or require changes to the plan.

"To make a recommendation to the WAPC, it is important that the feedback we receive reflects the diversity of views present in our community. Community members are urged to provide feedback to the City to ensure their views are taken into account."

In the last few weeks the City has hosted a public meeting to explain the process for considering the plan, as well as a series of 'Meet the Planner Table Discussions' aimed to provide an opportunity for residents and ratepayers to ask questions about the plan.
