The Importance of Art

Posted on April 20, 2017

I've had the pleasure this week of meeting some pre-apprentices from MPA Skills who have been painting a new mural at the Morley Library.

The mural is part of the City's Community Art Grants Program and I can safely say it has bought the space to life.

It portrays the Swan River and a tree with a heart at its centre that speaks to the importance of the natural environment in the City of Bayswater. The mural has been painted on the library's interior walls and spans its length.

The Community Art Grants Program shows the high regard the City has for art in the community and how it engages and inspires. The Program aim is to celebrate our creativity, identity, history and our cultural identity.

This particular project is one of many art projects you'll see taking shape this year; the City has awarded $69,715 in funding towards art projects aimed at fostering and developing art within the local community.

I urge you all to go and take a look at the new mural and explore the Morley Library while you're there.
