New Cricket Nets for Deschamp Reserve

Posted on January 13, 2017
New practice cricket nets for Deschamp Reserve will attract more local players to the game and are a major plus for the Noranda Primary School, which is adjacent to the reserve.

The City of Bayswater and Noranda Junior Cricket Club has committed $18,000 to the capital works project and is working closely with the Noranda Cricket Club President Andrew Calvert on the project.

"Having these new practice nets upgraded on Deschamp Reserve will take this cricket pitch to the next level," Mayor Barry McKenna said.

"Cricket is played here all year round, with four local teams and a very popular Last Man Standing Competition played weekly.”

Councillor Michelle Sutherland echoed Mayor McKenna’s comments adding; "This will encourage more teams to play on the ground and also gives the local sporting community a strong focus for their Clubs."

The cricket nets will soon have full length synthetic turf wickets, setting Deschamp Reserve apart from many other grounds in the area and making it a pleasure to bowl on, according to local cricketers.

The City is currently working on repairing three practice nets with new full length turf wickets and a net upgrade, the project is due for completion in the New Year.
