City seeks seniors input on Age Friendly Strategy

Posted on February 03, 2017
A series of workshops that will focus on the needs of seniors in the City of Bayswater are set to begin in February.

The workshops will canvas the views of seniors and will inform the development of the City's first Age Friendly Strategy.

City of Bayswater Mayor Barry McKenna said it was important that those over 60 felt that they had a voice in the local community.

"It is essential that our seniors feel connected and valued. We need to ensure they can envisage themselves growing older here while remaining happy and healthy," Mayor McKenna said.

"Living an active and healthy lifestyle into older age can improve life expectancy and quality of life for our seniors.

"Active aging is crucial in remaining mentally and physically fit. As our population ages it is important that we provide opportunities for our seniors to be socially and actively involved in City life.

"The development our first ever Age Friendly Strategy will ensure the needs of our seniors are taken into account."

The first workshop will take place on Monday, 13 February at the Morley Bowls Club from 9.45am to 12 noon.

The City is inviting all members of the community aged 60 and upwards, plus stakeholders to join them at the workshops and share ideas to develop the Strategy.

The input captured from the four workshops - which take place on February 13, 15, 16 and 17 - will inform the City on how it can engage with seniors and provide services and programs that meet their expectations.

Attending the workshop is free, but spaces need to be booked by 9 February by contacting 9270 4107.

If you can't attend the workshop you can complete an electronic survey online at www.bayswater.wa.gov.au/age-friendly

Light refreshments will be served at the workshops.
