With autumn about to give way to winter, it's an opportune time for householders and businesses to prepare for the inclement weather that the change of season can bring.
Winter storms bring with them heavy rain, high winds and in extreme conditions, hail and lightning. These conditions represent a real risk to lives and property, so it makes sense to prepare your family and home or business for the wild weather to come.
Some simple precautions taken now will help minimise the risk posed by winter's storms. Clear your gutters of leaves; check the integrity of your roof tiles; trim tree branches close to your home; clear rubbish from your backyard; and ensure loose outdoor furniture and your BBQ are stowed safely away.
Stormy weather can also mean power outages, so having an emergency kit on hand for use by your family is a good idea. Recommended items to include in your emergency kit include a portable radio, torch, spare batteries, first aid kit and some non-perishable food.
Act now and ensure you are ready.
