City successful in its bid to secure CCTV for Noranda

Posted on June 30, 2017
The City of Bayswater has been successful in obtaining $147,000 in grant funding from the Federal Government for the installation of new CCTV cameras around the Noranda Sporting Complex and Robert Thompson Reserve.

The funding follows a pre-election commitment made by Michael Keenan MP during the last Federal election.

Mayor Barry McKenna said the new CCTV cameras will complement the City's existing CCTV network in the Bayswater, Maylands and Morley Town Centres.

"It is important we provide a safe and welcoming environment for people who live, work and visit the City of Bayswater.

"The installation of CCTV cameras at the Noranda Sporting Complex and Robert Thompson Reserve will ensure the community feel safe to enjoy the wonderful recreational facilities on offer.

"The funding will provide for a minimum of 22 new cameras to be installed around the Noranda Sporting Complex and Robert Thompson Reserve. Footage will be recorded on a secure server and made available to City Security Staff via a wireless link across the City.

"The City has strong working relationships with local Police and will make CCTV footage available in case of an incident.

The City was provided $147,000 in grant funding via the Federal Government's Safer Communities Fund.

"The support of Michael Keenan MP has been pivotal in obtaining the grant funding.

"CCTV cameras will be installed around the Noranda Sporting Complex and Robert Thompson Reserve in late 2017." Mayor McKenna said.

Minister for Justice Michael Keenan said the Coalition Government has now committed more than $100 million in funding to assist local communities in delivering strategies to address crime and anti-social behaviour.

"As we all know, CCTV and security infrastructure has been a key factor in both solving and preventing crimes in our local community. That is why we have provided the City of Bayswater with this significant investment.

"Our top priority will always be to keep our citizens and our communities safe."
