Local Playgrounds receive new equipment Makeover

Posted on July 28, 2017
The City of Bayswater will provide new equipment to 11 playgrounds in the 2017/18 Financial Year as part of its rolling program to update playground infrastructure.

Nine playgrounds have already received new equipment in the last 12 months as part of the City's ongoing playground replacement program.

Play equipment is anticipated to last up to fifteen years and is checked monthly by City maintenance staff. Equipment styles change over time and include swings, benches, climbers, rockers, soft fall and shade sails. There is an increasing trend towards more natural nature play types of equipment recently installed at Bert Wright Park in Bayswater

Other play sites recently replaced include: Holden Reserve in Noranda, Silverwood Reserve, Carramar Community Centre, Farnham Reserve, Fedders Reserve and Newington Reserve in Morley, Paterson Reserve in Bayswater, Wotton Reserve in Embleton and Clarkson Reserve in Maylands.

"These playgrounds and reserves are all integral parts of the local communities they are in and are often used by children and families who live in the area," Mayor Barry McKenna said.

"The City has 110 playgrounds across a 100 different reserves with the majority being local, catering for residents living within 400 metres of the park.

"We are known for our beautiful parks and gardens in the 'Garden City' so it's only right that we should invest in updating these playgrounds for our residents."

The City conducts an audit of its playground equipment every three years to make sure it complies with Australian industry standards.

Eleven playgrounds are due for replacement in the 2017/18 financial year with an estimated replacement value of $415,000.
