City of Bayswater residents are being urged to sharpen their secateurs and stretch their green thumbs by entering the City's annual Garden Awards which open on September 1.
This year's categories include; best first time entrant front garden, best verge garden, best urban garden, best vegetable garden, best native garden and best overall garden people's choice award.
"The City's parks and open spaces coupled with numerous thriving residential gardens make the suburbs of Bayswater particularly special," Mayor Barry McKenna said.
"Gardens are a great place to spend time together as a family; can provide you with fresh fruit and vegetables and in today's increasingly digital world they can help us get back to nature.
"Every year we encourage our residents to spruce up their front yard, verge and vegetable gardens to win a host of cash prizes - it's a great opportunity for keen gardeners who are blessed with green thumbs to show off their glorious green spaces.
"And if you have a neighbour or a friend who has a particularly beautiful garden you can take a picture of their garden and enter on their behalf."
The first prize for each category is $300 and the runner-up prize is $100.
Once all entries are received a panel of Garden Award judges will pick a winner and runner-up.
Entries to the awards will close on October 20; there will also be a presentation night on November 23.
An album of the winning photos will appear on the City's Facebook page once they have been announced.
To enter, all you have to do is send a picture of your garden or your neighbour's garden to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have difficulty submitting your entry, please contact the City on 9272 0694.
