Nominations Open for Citizen of the Year 2018

Posted on September 29, 2017
Do you know someone who goes above and beyond in the community to make a positive contribution?

Whether it's the volunteer who has been a long term part of their local SES unit, the man who started a foundation after being diagnosed with a rare condition or the woman who has devoted her life to helping local charities - if you know of someone who should be nominated for a Citizen of the Year award now is the time.

"The Citizen of the Year awards recognise people in the community who have made a significant contribution over the last year," Mayor Barry McKenna said.

"We have so many people in the Bayswater area who give so completely of their time to community groups; and without them these foundations and groups couldn't operate.

"It's a great honour to be able to recognise these people for their tireless giving through the Citizen of the Year awards.

"These awards give you, the community a chance to nominate someone who has made a real difference in your community and create the opportunity for them to be rewarded and recognised for that contribution."

The awards recognise individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the community in areas such as; education, health, fund-raising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.

For 2018 nominations can be made in four categories including: Community Citizen of the Year; Community Citizen of the Year - Youth (under 25); Community Citizen of the Year - Senior (65 and over); and the Active Citizenship Award for a community group or event.

To nominate a deserving individual or group for the 2018 Australia Day Awards visit the Community Citizen of the Year website - www.citizenshipawards.com.au - and click on the 'nominate now' link.

Nominations close on Tuesday, 31 October 2017.
