Australia Day can mean different things to different people.
It is a day of recognition, inclusion and respect. From our Aboriginal descendants to our modern day citizens, we all seek that vision of peace, happiness and prosperity for all.
This year we are marking Australia Day by holding a community barbecue and by welcoming our new citizens as they join the Australian family.
Each year we welcome those from other lands who contribute to our City's rich multicultural heritage. Some are families seeking a better life, relatives with families already settled here, refugees from war torn nations, and those pursuing their dreams; all come with hope for a better future.
The community barbecue will be held from 8:30am at our Civic Centre, 61 Broun Avenue in Morley.
Together with the Mayor and my fellow Councillors, I am looking forward to welcoming you on the day.
Councillor Sally Palmer
