As we enter into 2018 I wanted to highlight to you the various City initiatives that support physically active and sustainable forms of transport.
Although cars are often the most convenient option for many trips in Perth, for a healthier, more functional and liveable city, it is important to consider ways to make walking, cycling and public transport more attractive.
This year the City will contribute $500,000 to new footpath construction as well as extra funding for street tree planting to provide more shade for pedestrians.
We are also upgrading and expanding our City's cycling network through our Local Bike Plan, including investing $80,000 to resurface the Police Academy cycleway from Swan Bank Road to Clarkson Road in Maylands.
And to encourage more commuters and students to use public transport, Council has allocated money to install new bus shelters at busy stops in our suburbs.
All of these endeavours are steps towards ensuring that our communities are prepared for the challenges that the future may bring.
