The Bayswater Library is set to receive a $156,000 facelift to ensure it meets the current and future needs of users.
The refurbishment works will include the remodelling of the Library's entrance, repainting, replacement of furniture and floor coverings, and reconfiguring of network infrastructure.
Mayor Dan Bull said the upgrade of the Bayswater Library was long overdue.
"The refurbished library will boast a contemporary and user friendly layout that will enable our residents to continue to access traditional services such as book borrowing but also study and use their mobile devices in comfortable surroundings.
"Our community's expectations have changed. Our libraries are fast becoming interactive learning hubs and we need to adapt to keep up with changes in technology and the needs of our customers.
The reconfiguration of Bayswater Library will create a space on the ground floor for the City to deliver children's activities. This will replace an area on the mezzanine floor that was previously only accessible by a steep staircase.
"The Bayswater Library is right on the doorstep of one of the City's most popular retail strips and its refurbishment forms part of our commitment to the activation of our town centres.
The Library's proximity to neighbouring Bert Wright Park with its naturescape play area and newly installed sand toy library will ensure it remains a drawcard for those visiting the Bayswater town centre.
"The City's three libraries offer a range of engaging activities. From weekly Storytime and Baby Rhyme Time sessions for children, IT training sessions for seniors and presentations on everything from refashioning clothing to landscape painting - there is something for everyone to enjoy.
"Last financial year a whopping 23,000 community members attended sessions at one of our three libraries.
The Bayswater Library will be closed from Monday 16 April to Saturday 26 May during the refurbishment. The library will re-open on Monday 28 May. Full services will continue for the City's Libraries situated at 240 Walter Road West Morley and in the RISE at 28 Eighth Avenue Maylands.
