The City of Bayswater has welcomed the announcement by the Federal Government of $500 million in funding towards the State Government's $1 billion Morley to Ellenbrook rail line.
Mayor Dan Bull said that Council had been advocating for improved public transport links throughout the City and it was great to see commitment coming from both major Parties and at all levels of government.
"The project is a win for the City and it will help deliver on the City's aspirations for the future of Morley as a successful and regionally significant economic centre" he said.
"Morley is one of Perth's strategic hearts and improving public transport links is a key to unlocking Morley City Centre's future as a major residential, business, entertainment and lifestyle hub.
"That's great news for future jobs and the local economy and it shows what can be done when all tiers of government work together to deliver great outcomes for the community."
The new Morley to Ellenbrook line will connect to Perth's rail network at Bayswater Station, which further cements the station's role as a major transport hub that will also link to Perth Airport via the Forrestfield Airport Link.
"The new Morley to Ellenbrook line provides added impetus to getting the State Government's announced upgrade for Bayswater Station right, and for the City to finalise the Bayswater town centre structure plan.
"That's been the missing piece of the puzzle and it will help us to leverage the rail upgrades in a way that will support and benefit the community in the heart of Perth's inner east," Mayor Bull said.
The State Government's plans for the upgrade of Bayswater Station are currently out for public comment.
