As part of its new Community Grants Program the City of Bayswater is offering community groups the chance to apply for a share of $412,000 in funding for initiatives that contribute to the City's vision for a strong and inclusive community.
Mayor Dan Bull said in the past the system for individuals or community organisations to access funding was cumbersome.
"Previously the process for sifting through requests for donations and grant applications was decentralised and at times, a little ad hoc.
"Consolidating the Community Grants Program and ensuring it has a consistent set of selection criteria will not only reduce red tape but ensure we are funding initiatives that benefit the entire community.
"Building a local community that is vibrant, diverse and inclusive is something this Council is committed to. It is a key driver of our Strategic Community Plan.
"Our residents need to feel part of their local community. Our local community groups, organisations and recreational clubs play an important role in ensuring people feel connected. Our new Community Grants Program will assist community groups in delivering initiatives that facilitate a sense of belonging.
"The new Grants Program will make it easier for community groups and recreational clubs to access funding.
The City will host an information session at 5pm on 21 May at the Civic Centre before the new Grants Program officially opens on 1 July 2018.
The information sessions will provide participants with information about the Community Grant Program including how to apply for grant funding.
Grant funding will be divided into four streams covering requests for capital funding (such as the upgrade of sporting facilities), donations (for both individuals and groups) and the new 'Better Bayswater' Grant that will provide funding for community activities that deliver on the City's vision for a connected community. Funding for community events will be incorporated into the new Grants Program from July 2019 following the completion of the next round of Major Town Event Funding.
