Councillor Column - Bayswater prepares for the big race

Posted on July 10, 2018

The 46th annual Avon Descent is just four weeks away and we're proud to once again host the finish line event at the picturesque Riverside Gardens. Each year, the City of Bayswater puts on a popular Family Fun Day to applaud competitors as they reach the end of the challenging two-day white water race.

It's an exciting atmosphere as friends, family and spectators gather to cheer-on participants on their home stretch to the finish line. Taking place on Sunday, 5 August from 11am to 6pm, I encourage you to come along and enjoy food trucks, market stalls, activities and entertainment for the whole family. This much-loved community event is free to attend, as always.

If you're up to the challenge there's still time to register as a competitor in the Avon Descent. There are a number of ways you can take part, including by kayak, canoe, dinghy, or even stand up paddle board. Relay teams of two and four can also compete. We hope to see more participants than ever this year, so head along to the Avon Descent website to register before 19 July.

See you there.
