Families, friends and spectators will gather at Riverside Gardens on Sunday 5 August to applaud Avon Descent competitors as they cross the finish line. The City's annual Avon Descent Finish Line Family Fun Day is set to boast food trucks, market stalls, activities and entertainment from 11am to 6pm.
Mayor Dan Bull said cheering Avon Descent competitors over the finish line was a longstanding tradition in Bayswater.
"Our prime riverside location at the heart of Perth's inner east makes Bayswater the ideal destination to celebrate one of the country's biggest white water races.
"We're proud to host the Avon Descent Finish Line event each year. Racing by kayak, canoe or power dinghy – what better place to finish the grueling two-day competition than the picturesque Riverside Gardens?"
"There will be free activities and entertainment on offer for the whole family, as well as an array food trucks, coffee vans and market stalls. And just for something different, you can even ride a camel this year."
Parking for the event will via Slade Street and King William Street only. Dogs must be kept on a lead. Free activities will include a petting zoo, face painting, bouncy castles, camel rides, an inflatable obstacle course and more.
The Rotary Club of Morley will be running a sausage sizzle fundraiser.
Registrations to compete in the Avon Descent close on Thursday 19 July and can be made through the Avon Descent website www.avondescent.com.au. More information on the Avon Descent Finish Line family Fun Day can be found on the City's Facebook page.
