Bayswater, Maylands and Morley libraries will host pirate-themed parties on Saturday 25 August to celebrate Children's Book Week. The parties will take place from 9am and include face painting, pirate stories and crafts, in line with the 2018 CBCA Book Week theme 'find your treasure'. Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed pirates.
City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said Book Week was a great chance to showcase the City's libraries. "Maylands, Bayswater and Morley libraries are buzzing with activity during Book Week, with hundreds of students visiting either for school excursions or with their families and friends.
"Amidst all the excitement, Book Week is the ideal time to teach children the value and responsibility of having their own library card. Being a library member exposes children to more books, magazines and educational resources than they can imagine.
"The City's three libraries host of a series of regular and one-off children's activities, many of which are free. So if you haven't visited in a while, Book Week is the perfect excuse to do so."
Pirate Storytime will take place at Bayswater Library on Monday 20 August and Maylands Library on Tuesday 21 August. A special Jumping Jelly Tots Storytime session will also be held at Morley Library on Monday 24 August.
Older children are invited to a free Comic Book Workshop on Wednesday 22 August at Morley Library with local comic maker Campbell Whyte. Suited to ages 11 to 18, participants will learn comic techniques from idea generation through to page design and layout, plus enjoy pizza after the session.
