Municipal Heritage Inventory & Scheme List

4 - Can I still build extensions to a property included on the Scheme Heritage List?

Answer

Being included on the Scheme Heritage List will not prevent places from being modified. Council may grant approval for modifications or extensions to Heritage List properties, where the heritage values can be retained. For example, you will still be able to build extensions to a residential property, construct a verandah or patio and undertake general maintenance of your property. Such developments should be sympathetic towards the existing building, such as including bull nosed verandahs and other appropriate materials. Internal modifications such as a bathroom or kitchen renovation will still not require planning approval.
