What's Happening in the Maylands Town Centre?
Council endorsed the Maylands Activity Centre Urban Design Framework in December 2009 following widespread community consultation. The Urban Design Framework provides the strategic direction for the future of the Maylands town centre.
To implement the recommendations of the Urban Design Framework a scheme amendment has been undertaken to legislate development controls and to zone the town centre the "Maylands Activity Centre Zone". Final approval for Scheme Amendment No. 45 to Town Planning Scheme No. 24 to implement the Maylands Activity Centre Zone was granted by the Hon Minister for Planning on 6 December 2011 and published in the Government Gazette on 14 December 2011.
The Maylands Activity Centre Zone is the major step to implement the recommendations of the Urban Design Framework and allocates six (6) 'special control areas' across the town centre. The 'special control areas' define the form, setbacks, land use and height of future development.
The Maylands Activity Centre Zone will facilitate high quality development with a variety of land uses, which will enhance the local heritage, character and streetscape of Maylands.
The Maylands Activity Centre Zone offers opportunities for landowners, developers and the broader community.
The City welcomes the chance to further discuss proposed redevelopments with interested parties. Please call the City's Strategic Planning Department on 9272 0622 should you have any queries.
