The City of Bayswater, in collaboration with the EMRC and its member Councils, has undertaken a comprehensive climate change risk assessment. This will identify impacts and associated actions to better prepare the region's community to adapt to the pressures of climate change.
Future-Proofing Perth's Eastern Region is a framework developed to complement regional actions to reduce emissions. Climate change risks relevant to the region will be identified and a regional adaptation plan to address these risks will also be developed.
The framework uses a Federal Government-accredited risk assessment methodology to investigate climate change impacts on local government operations and services. To date, the project has identified regional risks and actions that will better assist local governments in adapting to climate change.
The Regional Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan 2009-13 is a foundation document that outlines what needs to be done at a regional level. The RCCAAP identifies major climate change risks relevant to the EMRC and member councils’ assets, services and operations. This plan has paved a way forward for the EMRC and member councils to take climate change to next step, providing a foundation for localised action planning. The RCCAAP advances advocacy for climate change across the region and will leverage more funding.
To consolidate and complement the work done at the regional level, the City Of Bayswater (in partnership with the EMRC) has identified local climate change adaptation actions that will be incorporated into the City’s Local Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan.
