Morley Town Centre

Morley Art Trail

Morley’s local Town Team created Morley’s first art walk and "Art Trail Map". Showcasing four murals and a number of sculptures and frescoes within the Progress Street Precinct in Morley, the art walk contributes to creating vibrancy and walkability within the Morley town centre. The short 650m loop can be easily done in under an half and hour.

Cultures of Morley Mural

The City partnered with The Morley Momentum to commission artist Pippa McManus to create a vibrant mural that reflects the local community of Morley.
The design reflects the top five ethnicities living in Morley today according to the Australian Census.  These are Vietnamese, Italian, Indian, Malaysian and Polish families.

Multicultural Mural

The Morley Momentum in partnership with Coventry Village and City of Bayswater commissioned a large scale multiculturally inspired mural on the façade of 5 Wellington Street, Morley.
The 90 metre long mural was created by artist Amuck 37 and is one of the largest murals in Western Australia.  The artwork depicts a journey through more than a dozen cultures through iconic symbols and events that are associated with those cultures, all of which are present in Morley through its ethnically diverse population.

Progress Street 'Make Believe' Mural

At the Progress Street pocket park is the whimsical mural ‘Make Believe’ by artist Steve Buckles, made in 2015. The works were commissioned after surveying business owners who thought an upgrade would help make the area more popular and supported by the City of Bayswater. The mural is a magical artwork in the heart of the Morley town centre.

Morley Noranda Recreation Club

In joint partnership with the Morley and Noranda Rec Club, the City of Bayswater commissioned local artist Brenton See to create a mural at the Club building in the Noranda Sporting Complex which features a mix of local flora and fauna.  As part of the design process, See went to Lightning Swamp in Noranda to take photos of native species, including the western wattlebird, rainbow bee-eater, red-tailed black cockatoo, bobtail lizard, red-capped parrot, motorbike frog and Canarby’s black cockatoo.  He then incorporated the species in the artwork, alongside sports played at the club and orchids, which recreated photos submitted by local residents.

Bendigo Bank Mural

The colourful mural along the retaining wall of the former post office/Bendigo Bank building on King William Street Bayswater was the result of a Baysie Rollers project, with funding assistance from the City. The distinctive artwork was painted by Mel McVee and local community members as a community art project in 2017.

Olfe Street Mural

Baysie Rollers received funding support from the City for a mural painted by artist Hurben on the Olfe Street wall of the Bayswater Community Centre. The mural relates to the history of the Bayswater Area, with connections to the river and local wildlife.

Bert Wright Park Mural

Wrapping around the back of the Bayswater Community Centre towards the library, and overlooking Bert Wright Park, is an extension of Hurben’s work that commenced with his Baysie Rollers project. Commissioned by the City, this work is playful and imaginative, loosely continuing with the river theme but moving into a world of fantasy as it moves toward the library. The mural continues as a work in progress.

Claughton Reserve

The Nearest of the Faraway Places

Claughton Reserve is home to 'The Nearest of the Faraway Places' - a public artwork by artist Duncan Moon.

Once a humble toilet block, it has been transformed into a beautiful piece of art that harmonises with the environment. It was commissioned by the City as part of a plan to upgrade Claughton Nature Reserve.

The toilet design complements the reserve by representing the wetlands flora and fauna:

  • Egret water birds
  • Kangaroo Paw plants
  • Stylised tortoise shell.
