How do I join the library?
Visit any City of Bayswater Library with documentary proof of your name and current address. You may also need to provide the name and phone number of an alternative contact person.
Suitable documents for use as documentary proof include:
- WA driver’s licence
- Bank statement
- Healthcare card
- Pensioner concession card
- Rates notice
- Utility accounts (phone, gas, water, electricity)
- WA motor vehicle registration
- Rental receipt

If you are living in temporary accommodation, or are unable to show proof of address, there will be a delay in joining. Please contact your local library for further details.
People under 18 will require a parent or legal guardian to visit the library to register them.
What can I borrow?
Each member can borrow a maximum of 15 items of any type, except DVDs. The DVD limit is 8. Items available for loan include:
- talking books
- music CDs
- graphic novels
The loan period for all items is three weeks.
Members can borrow items by showing their library card, photo identification or by stating their PIN (personal identification number).
Loss of, or damage to, any library items must be reported immediately.
How can I request an item not currently available from my library?
Items held by City of Bayswater libraries, but are on loan to others, can be requested:
- Online using the library catalogue.
- Through the personal computers available at all our libraries.
- By filling out a Request Form at each library’s enquiries desk.
- By contacting your local library.
Items held outside City of Bayswater Libraries can be requested by filling out a Request Form at the enquiries desk or by contacting your local library.
How do I renew an item I have out on loan?
Items can be renewed by phone, in person or via our online library catalogue. Items cannot be renewed if requested by others or if the item has been renewed previously.
What happens if my items are not returned by the due date?
Members will receive an overdue notice when borrowed items are overdue. This may be via email or regular post.
If items are not returned or renewed, a tax invoice will be sent and borrowing rights will be suspended until the items have been returned or the invoice settled. Items appearing on a tax invoice cannot be renewed.
