Dog Attacks

The City of Bayswater takes all reported dog attacks seriously. If you or your dog are involved in a dog attack please seek appropriate Veterinary/Medical assistance.

If your dog or a dog in your care/control attacks another person or animal you will be held responsible and liable for prosecution. Dog Attacks can be broadly classified into 2 categories 1)  If a dog attacks/chases a person or animal and causes physical injury or 2) If a dog attacks or chases a person or animal without causing physical injury.

Where the attack results in a physical injury the person in control of the dog may incur penalties up to $10,000 or up to $20,000 where the offence relates to a dangerous dog. Where no physical injury is caused the person in control of the dog may incur penalties up to $3,000 or up to $10,000 where the offence relates to a dangerous dog.

In order for the City to investigate a dog attack we require a complete Dog Attack Report Form including a written statement describing the attack. Should physical injuries be sustained you will need to both photograph the injuries and provide evidence of any medical treatment received. It is also important to record the names, addresses and phone numbers of witnesses where possible. Return the Complete Dog Attack Report Form, Statement and Supporting Documentation to City of Bayswater Rangers and Security Services in person to 61 Broun Avenue Morley, by e-mail to mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au or by mail to PO Box 467, MORLEY WA 6943.
