The City of Bayswater council has agreed on a concept plan for the new Maylands Multipurpose Centre, (scroll down to bottom of page for artist's impression and concept elevations).

The new centre, to be built on the civic precinct site at the corner of Eighth Avenue and Guildford Road, will replace the Alma Venville Centre and will also house the new Maylands Library.

The design is modern with iconic elements and includes architectural features to reflect the character of Maylands.  The Maylands Multipurpose Centre will provide high quality community facilities to meet the needs of residents and community groups well into the future.

The design comprises two structures linked by an undercover reception area.  The two storey centre will be home to some great new facilities including an amphitheatre suitable for outdoor entertainment, multi-function sports hall, a new library, community meeting rooms, a café, plus community facilities and offices on the upper floor.

The facility will also house a child health clinic, parents and children facility, and a City of Bayswater one-stop information shop for Council services that will be similar to the one located at the Centro Galleria Shopping Centre.

The Maylands Multipurpose Centre will be a vibrant hub and meeting place for community groups and local residents, and will serve the needs of the local community well into the future.

The new centre has been part of Council’s vision for Maylands for 10 years.  The Federal Government’s $10 million in funding is subject to the City of Bayswater delivering the project as quickly as possible and construction of the centre is expected to get underway by the end of the year.

Preparatory work begins

The City of Bayswater has gone out to tender for the demolition of the Alma Venville Centre to prepare the site ready for construction of the new Maylands Multi Purpose Centre.

The Infant Health Clinic has temporarily relocated to the old Maylands police station, but will be housed in the Maylands Multi Purpose Centre once construction has been completed in late 2010.

Demolition of the Infant Health Clinic is complete, with work to demolish the Alma Venville Centre due to be complete by mid November.
