The NAIDOC Week Youth Art Exhibition ran from 7 - 13 July in the foyer of the RISE, Maylands. The exhibition was opened on 7 July in a function which featured a performance by Aboriginal band the Bartlett Brother.
The exhibition showcased the artwork of young people from Aboriginal and other cultural backgrounds who participated in the Art House and SLAM programs run by Outcare Youth Services. Participants in the programs were encouraged to create an abstract piece exploring the themes around NAIDOC Week and Aboriginal people. For many young people in the program, this was the first time they have created an art piece and it has been a new experience for them.
