As part of National Youth Week 2014, Sound Overload gave young bands the chance to perform to their community, kick-start their career and bring young people together.
Sound Overload was open to bands from all genres with members aged 12 to 25 years and was an initiative of the City of Bayswater's Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and Community Services team. The event was sponsored by the Department of Local Government and Communities and Xpress magazine.
Heat - Autumn River Festival
The heat of Sound Overload kicked off on Sunday 6 April on the Autumn River Festival Main Stage. Seven bands competed for the chance to go through to the Sound Overload final.
The event was part of the Autumn River Festival Youth Zone which also included gaming, indoor snow, monster balls and barrel rolling.
Final - Boomshanka Skate Competition
Wotton Skatepark in Embleton was the scene of a battle ground on Saturday 12 April, as the top five bands in the City of Bayswater's annual Sound Overload Battle of the Bands competition vied for top place and a slice of a prize package. Local punk-rockers The Decline starred as the headline act, to round off a fun afternoon of free entertainment including inflatable games, demos and an urban art workshop.
Congratulations to all bands on a great performance.
