Remote control car enthusiasts are enjoying improved racing facilities after the installation of an enclosed driver's platform at Moojebing Reserve. The West Coast Model Remote Control

Car Club applied for funding through the City's 2018/19 Community Capital Request Program.

A contribution of $37,000 by the City of Bayswater has helped the club install a larger, universally accessible platform suitable for hosting national racing events.

Mayor Dan Bull said the City was proud to support the project.

"Organisations like the West Coast Model RC Club offer so much than just a hobby, they are about community. There's a real sense of belonging and social connection that comes with being part of a club.

"We want to see a diverse range of clubs grow and develop in Perth's inner east. By increasing participation in recreational activities, we're helping to build a happier and healthier community.

"The great thing about remote control car racing is that anyone can participate, regardless of age or ability. It's something that brings people of all generations together for a bit of healthy competition.

"I hope this funding will help grow the club and attract new members."

West Coast Model RC is the largest club of its kind in Western Australia, with almost 200 members. The club have been based at Moojebing Reserve in Bayswater for over 30 years, supporting three racing disciplines: offroad, onroad and 'Big Rigs'. The sought-after venue attracts participants and spectators from all corners of the state.

The community are invited to come along to the regular race days held at the club on Wednesday and Friday evenings, and some weekends. A calendar of racing events can be found on the club's website.
