Visitors to the Bayswater, Maylands and Morley libraries can now expect a more efficient experience with upgrades to a new radio-frequency identification (RFID) system now complete at all City of Bayswater libraries.

The $195,000 project will offer library members the opportunity to quickly and easily check out multiple items at once, monitor the status of items on loan or reserved and renew and return items all available in twenty languages at the press of a touch screen.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said that the upgraded self-service facilities will result in a convenient and efficient experience for both library visitors and staff alike.

“RFID technology works by microchipping each item, and installing scanners at all ends of the borrowing process to read those microchips, eliminating the need for library staff to spend time checking items in and out for visitors.

“What this means for our community is a much faster borrowing process, and library staff who are freed up to meet the needs of visitors in other areas.

“Our community is incredibly diverse and one of the best parts of this entire process is that users will be able to access the features in twenty different languages, ensuring everyone in the community can take advantage of new system with ease.
