Budding bookworms will have the chance to explore literacy with the help of authors, artists and entertainers this month as part of the City of Bayswater’s 2019 Book Week Celebrations.

Running from 17 – 23 August all over Australia, Book Week brings children and books together in a celebration of all things literature.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said that this year’s theme “reading is my secret power” is an important message for kids and parents alike.

“A love of books can be powerful for kids of all ages. Reading helps kids learn more about the world, explore their creative side and is even shown to be a great stress reliever.

“This year, we’re hosting a young adult writer’s workshop where people aged 11 – 17 can work on their writing skills over pizza with the help of young adult author AJ Betts.

“We’re also throwing three family parties hosted by children’s entertainers Josephine and Goggles, Glenn Swift and artist Samantha Hughes, where the whole family can come along, get dressed up as their favourite book characters and take part in storytelling, games and crafts.

“We are lucky enough to have three libraries in the City; Bayswater, Maylands and Morley. If you haven’t visited your local library in a while, Book Week is the perfect excuse to pop down and see first-hand everything we have on offer.”
