How sustainable is your street?

Neighbours across Perth's inner east have come together to battle it out for the honourable title of Most Sustainable Street.

How sustainable is your street?
Jul 05 2019

For the first time, the City has launched a Most Sustainable Street Award to recognise residents helping to create a greener Bayswater. Neighbours are encouraged to work together to nominate as many households in their street as possible.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the competition was a fun way to highlight the great things already being done in the community.

"We're looking for streets with solar panels, waterwise gardens, composting, good recycling habits—things that many people are already doing.

"The City has made a number of changes in recent years to make it easier for residents to create more environmentally friendly homes.

"Our red tape busting verge garden policy means residents don't need Council approval to transform their verge when they follow the City's simple guidelines. Our home composting program has been a huge success and we continue to hand out low-cost waterwise seedlings each year through our Plants to Residents Program."

Residents have until 31 August 2019 to nominate their street. The winning street will proudly display a 'Most Sustainable Street' sign and receive $500 towards making their street even more sustainable. The prize could be used to purchase plants to share, worm farms or to run an environmental workshop in the neighbourhood.

A nomination form can be found on the City's website, bayswater.wa.gov.au/environment. It is recommended that one person on the street collect the completed nomination forms and submits them to the City by emailing mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au, posting them to PO Box 467, Morley WA 6943, or by dropping them off at the Civic Centre.
