The City's annual Avon Descent Finish Line Community Event is set to boast food trucks, market stalls, activities and entertainment from 11am to 6pm.

Mayor Dan Bull said the community looked forward to this iconic event each year.

"The picturesque Riverside Gardens is the perfect destination to finish the gruelling 124 kilometre marathon race.

"It's an electric atmosphere as everyone gathers to applaud the Avon Descent competitors over the finish line.

"We've got four free activity zones this year, each with entertainment for different age groups. There will be face painting and pony rides for the little ones, and older kids will enjoy go-karts and a video game zone.

"As always, we will be reducing the single use plastic at this event, so I encourage you to bring along your own reusable drink bottle to fill at the free water stations."

This year marks the 47th Annual Avon Descent, making it the longest running multi-sport adventure event in Western Australia. The race starts in Northam on Saturday 3 August and finishes in Bayswater on 4 August.

Parking will be via Slade Street and King William Street only. Dogs must be kept on a lead during the event.
