The City's Manager of Sustainability and Environment, Jeremy Maher, will represent Bayswater at the Beyond 2020 World Sustainable Build Environment Conference in Sweden after being awarded a Perth Convention Bureau (PCB) scholarship.

The Australian Institute of Management WA Professional Development Award was presented to Jeremy by Emeritus Professor Gary Martin FAIM, CEO of the Australian Institute of Management WA, at a ceremony on 12 June.

The Aspire Program, funded by PCB, recognises individuals involved with not-for-profit associations, academia, researchers and professionals across a variety of industry sectors.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull congratulated Jeremey on the significant achievement.

"This prestigious award and scholarship is a testament to Jeremy's wholehearted commitment to making Bayswater a greener, more environmentally friendly place to live. Jeremy is particularly passionate about climate change and planning for a more sustainable City.

"Our Council is serious about environmental sustainability, and many of our achievements in this space have been under Jeremy's leadership.

"In the past year alone, the City has received four major sustainability awards for the Bayswater Brook Catchment Management Plan. Led by Jeremy in his role as the City's Manager of Sustainability and Environment, the importance of this major water-quality project cannot be underestimated.

"We've seen the rehabilitation of Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary, two successful living stream projects, and now the revitalisation of a drainage site into a micro wetland."

The Beyond 2020 World Sustainable Build Environment Conference is considered to be one of the world’s most prestigious conferences and forums in the field of sustainable built environment. About 2000 delegates from all over the world in the academia, industry, finance and policy sector are expected to join the conference. The discussion will focus on achieving UN Sustainable Development Goal 11, Sustainable cities and communities, by the 2030 deadline.

"Jeremy will have the opportunity to meet with industry leaders from across the world, learn from their experience, gain new ideas and bring that knowledge home to benefit our community. He will also be advocating for the next Sustainable Build Environment Conference to be held in Perth," said Mayor Bull.
