Celebrate NAIDOC Week with the City of Bayswater
Jun 19 2019

Fostering positive relationships between the broader community and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is at the heart of the City of Bayswater’s 2019 NAIDOC Week celebrations.

Working with this year’s theme ‘Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together’, the City will be hosting a series of free events aimed at improving the community’s knowledge and appreciation of Noongar culture.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said that the City is working to create an inclusive and respectful community in which the history, culture and achievements of its first peoples are celebrated.

“This NAIDOC Week we are inviting the entire community to enjoy the Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company’s performances of Noongar dreamtime stories, exploring the importance of stars.

“Our libraries are also hosting a special NAIDOC Week edition of their Noongar Language and Culture sessions with Carol Foley, two Aboriginal painting sessions with Noongar artist Bianca Wilder and a NAIDOC storytime session with Bindi Bindi dreaming.

“We’re once again a proud sponsor of the Town of Bassendean’s annual NAIDOC Week Family Day which is set to be filled with family activities, free food and a great range of opportunities to celebrate our first peoples.

“With such a great variety of events on offer, this is the perfect chance for everyone in our community to get involved this NAIDOC Week, and come away with a greater appreciation of Noongar culture and history.”

National Reconciliation Week runs annually from 7 to 14 July. For more information or full event details, click here.
