The City of Bayswater proudly accepted two accolades for sustainable water management at the Water Corporation's Waterwise Business Recognition event on Wednesday, 1 May 2019.

Voted by the public, the City won the inaugural Waterwise Council Community Choice Award for its Russell Street Park project. The project saw the City partner with Water Corporation, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, and Lotterywest to convert an old stormwater drain into a series of living streams and pop-up ninja park.

The City was also awarded Gold Waterwise status for the second year in a row.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said the City was proud to be recognised for leadership in water management.

"The City has brought various water management agencies together to work towards a common goal: improving the quality of water flowing into the Swan River. This big picture thinking is one of the reasons our Council continues to receive recognition in the area of environment and sustainability.

"The great thing about our Russell Street Park project is that it has been successful in both improving water quality and providing the community with a unique recreational space to enjoy. And winning the community choice award tells us we're not the only ones who think so.

"I would like to thank everyone who got behind the City of Bayswater and voted for us to win the Waterwise Council Community Choice Award."

The Waterwise Council Program is run through a partnership between the Water Corporation and the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation, and supports councils to improve water efficiency in their operations and communities, and to lead the way in water sustainability.
