The City added two electric bikes to its fleet of vehicles as part of its newly adopted position and action statement on renewable energy and emissions reduction. Whenever practical, staff will be encouraged cycle between City buildings and to offsite meetings instead of taking a car.

City of Bayswater Chief Executive Andrew Brien said the bikes provided a sensible, zero emission alternative.

"We are keen to reduce the impact of the City's day-to-day operations on the environment. Fewer cars on the road mean less pollution and less congestion on our roads.

"Our bikes are recharged using solar panels already in place at the Civic Centre, so there is no additional energy cost.

"Staff will have the option to book an electric bike instead of a car when they take short trips around the local area. Not only does this make economic sense but it's great for individual health and fitness."

The City will introduce a safety and education program for staff in line with the electric bikes.
