Morley pocket park gets a facelift
The pocket park will provide a place for shoppers to meet friends, have lunch and take some time out.
The City has partnered with local group The Morley Momentum to revitalise a pocket park on Progress Street in Morley. The $65k project will see a 130 square metre space between two buildings transformed into an attractive public place complete with seating, a deck, footpath, festoon lights and greenery.
City of Bayswater CEO Andrew Brien said the pocket park would bring new life to the area.
"Morley is home to a diverse retail, dining and business precinct, and public space is at a premium.
"The pocket park is a way we can make use of otherwise underused space, creating a welcoming green space in the middle of an urban area.
"Progress Street is the link between two busy shopping destinations in Morley, Coventry Village and Galleria Shopping Centre, making it ripe for revitalisation.
"The pocket park will provide a place for shoppers to meet friends, have lunch and take some time out. We hope to see the space used for small community events, activities and gatherings.
"The City is proud to work with local group The Morley Momentum to deliver this project."
The Progress Street Pocket Park project is jointly funded by the City of Bayswater and the Federal Government through a Stronger Communities Grant secured by The Morley Momentum.
The project is planned to be complete late in 2019.
