The City of Bayswater community will enjoy a packed program of events this year, with three locally-run events confirmed as part of the City's Major Town Centre Event Grant Program. The City will contribute $10,000 towards the Noranda Christmas Concert run by Noranda Vibes, $12,000 towards the Noranda Community Fair run by Morley Noranda Recreation Club, and $20,000 towards the Maylands Street Festival run by LACE (Local Arts and Community Events).

The City's Major Town Centre Event grant invites groups to apply for funding to run large-scale events, attracting 2,000 people or more, in one of the City’s four town centres: Morley, Maylands, Bayswater and Noranda.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said locally-led events played an important role in fostering a sense of community pride.

"Events run by our local community help create the kind of vibrant public places where people enjoy spending time. They are an opportunity to showcase the unique personality of our town centres.

"In addition to the annual program of events offered by the City, our Council recognises the importance of supporting our local groups to run their own events.

"We're fortunate to have a number of proactive place activation groups with fantastic ideas to draw people in to our town centres. Our Major Town Centre Event funding is about helping more ideas get off the ground.

"We are proud to support Noranda Christmas Concert and Maylands Street Festival."

The next round of Major Town Centre Event funding will open in December 2019.
