Sixth Avenue in Maylands has been named the most sustainable street in the City of Bayswater as part of the first Sustainable Street Awards. The honourable title recognises the collective commitment of Sixth Avenue residents towards creating a greener neighbourhood.

Mayor Dan Bull proudly presented the Most Sustainable Street sign to Sixth Avenue residents on Wednesday 11 September.

"I would like to congratulate the residents of Sixth Avenue on taking out the title of most sustainable street in the City of Bayswater.

"Sixth Avenue boasts a number of fantastic edible verge gardens, as well as excellent recycling habits and a passion for repurposing items rather than throwing them out.

"Neighbours along Sixth Avenue have come together to organise sustainability initiatives for their street including composting and a verge garden tour.

"After gaining permission from the owner of an empty patch of land on their street, Sixth Avenue residents transformed an unused space into a small native park open to everyone to enjoy.

"The title of most sustainable street is certainly well deserved."

The City received entries from 11 households on Sixth Avenue, who came together to put their street forward for the title of Most Sustainable Street.

The street will proudly display a 'Most Sustainable Street' sign and receive $500 towards a project to make their neighbourhood even more sustainable.
