Coronavirus (COVID-19) update - Contact registers put in place at City and community facilities
Dec 03 2020

The City is working hard to do what it can to protect the community and staff, and is taking steps to reduce the potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in line with WA’s new controlled border.

“We understand the pressure this pandemic is putting on local families and businesses and it is important we work together during this national health emergency," said City of Bayswater CEO Andrew Brien.

“In line with the State Government’s mandatory requirement for contact registers to be kept at certain businesses and premises from Saturday 5 December, the City will be recording the contact details of all community members, staff, volunteers and contractors entering its Civic Centre, depot, libraries, recreation centres, community centres, Rangers and Security office, and dog pound."

All staff and visitors over the age of 16 years will be required to ‘check in’ at City buildings and community facilities. This can be done by downloading and using the QR scanner on the SafeWA app or filling in a paper version of the contact register which will be available at each site.

“I encourage staff and community members to download the SafeWA app as it is free, easy to use contactless and a quick way to provide your details," said Mr Brien.

“Paper versions of the register will also be available for those who don’t have a smartphone. The registers will be retained for the purpose of contact tracing and will be disposed of in accordance with legislative requirements. Further details can be found in the SafeWA Privacy Policy.

“Now more than ever it is important we all play our part. In the event of an outbreak, contact tracing, undertaken by the Department of Health, is vital in preventing the spread of the COVID- 19 virus.

“Making sure we all do the right thing by providing our details when we move around the community is an important part of the process."

Patrons of the City’s Maylands, Bayswater and Morley libraries will be able to check in or fill in a contact register at the front desk. Community members visiting the Civic Centre reception, attending a function or a Council meeting will also need to register their details. People using facilities at Bayswater Waves or The Rise are required to register upon arrival at each centre. Visitors to the City’s Rangers and Security office will also need to register.

Volunteers will be on hand at the City’s community centres in Bayswater and Morley to provide assistance to older residents.

Anyone booking a City venue or leasing a community facility will be responsible for maintaining an attendance register.

"We understand this is a challenging time for all local businesses and we will continue to support them as they adjust to this change."
