The City of Bayswater is seeking volunteers who are passionate about supporting people experiencing homelessness, to assist with the Rough Sleeper Count this March.

Taking place from 1am to 3am on Tuesday 17 March, volunteers will use an app developed by the City to record the locations of people sleeping rough right across the City of Bayswater.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said research collected will assist the City in creating its Local Homelessness Strategy.

“People can experience homelessness for many reasons – including domestic violence, ill-health, long-term unemployment and mental health issues. The City of Bayswater is committed to advocating for those who don’t have a voice on this issue.

“By collecting accurate figures on how many and where people in our community are sleeping rough, we will be able to not only better inform our Local Homelessness Strategy, but also work with local organisations towards finding long-term solutions.

“All volunteers will attend a briefing session, teaching them how to collect data without disturbing people who are sleeping. The City is also developing an app for use on the night that will ensure data collected is as accurate as possible.

“I’d encourage anyone who genuinely cares for those doing it tough in our community to get involved in this important initiative.”
