The proposed new limit on the residential area will include Stanley Street, Mitchell Street, Ellesmere Road and Thirlmere Road, and covers private hospital St John of God Mount Lawley.

This Council approval comes after the City submitted an application to Main Roads WA to reduce the speed limit from 50km / hr, as the traffic data and road environment - including proximity to the hospital - were deemed appropriate.

City of Bayswater Mayor Dan Bull said a reduced limit in the area would help improve safety for the whole community and visitors to the area.

'We expect this new speed limit will increase safety for pedestrians and cylists in the streets as well as reduce any risks for road users attending the hospital," Cr Bull said.

"The City has been working closely with St John of God to advocate for lower speed limits in the area and we are pleased to now have an outcome that will benefit the City, the hospital and the community.

"The City will shortly undertake community consultation with local residents to gather their feedback before we make a final decision."

Residents can stay informed on the community consultation as updates become available online.
