Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
Mar 23 2020

“The City is working hard to do what it can to reduce the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

“Given the rapidly changing situation, City staff are assessing all new information on a daily basis.

“In response to the Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison’s restrictions on social gatherings, in particular the closure of gyms and indoor sporting venues, the City closed Bayswater Waves and The RISE at midday today.

The Morley Sport and Recreation Centre, which is managed by the YMCA on behalf of the City, also closed at midday today.

“Bayswater, Morley and Maylands library also closed their doors today.

“We believe these measures are necessary to protect the community and our staff.

“Signage has been placed at closed facilities directing community members to the City’s website for updates on its response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and affected services.

“We understand that the closure of the libraries will reduce access to our customer service facilities so we encourage community members to call us on 9272 0622, email us at mail@bayswater.wa.gov.au or message us via Facebook. We will respond to your enquiries as soon as we can. For updates on the City’s response to COVID-19 and affected services visit bayswater.wa.gov.au/covid19

“All items currently out on loan will have their return dates extended by six weeks to 4 May 2020. Library members will be able to renew items up to four times via the Internet or over the phone.

“Each renewal will extend the loan period by six weeks. Items can be returned via the Morley Library return chute between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. The chutes will be closed on public holidays.

“We are currently looking at ways to provide our services online.

“We understand this is a challenging time for all local businesses and we want to do everything we can to support them.

“Restaurants and cafes who are now restricted to providing their offerings via takeaway and home delivery are encouraged to visit the City’s website and register to be included in our online business directory.

“Businesses who register with the City will also feature on City’s Instagram page as part of our #buybaysie campaign. We will be promoting the ways local businesses have adapted due to the new restrictions and how the community can support them.

“It is important for local businesses to adapt at this time. We understand that moving your business online can be daunting and we are committed to supporting you every step of the way. Business owners are encouraged to contact the City’s Placemakers for assistance.

“If you are working from home as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic you do not need a permit from the City.

“I would like to reiterate that the safety of the community and our staff is our top priority as we continue to operate in this challenging environment."
