The redevelopment plan is split into two stages.

Council adopts Maylands Waterland Concept Plan
Mar 12 2020

Last night Council approved a draft concept plan that will pave the way for the delivery of water play facilities including a splash pad and play pool at Maylands Waterland by November 2021.

Mayor Dan Bull said he was keen supporter of the project.

“The approval of the concept plan signals Council’s commitment to the redevelopment of Waterland as a family friendly, water based park on the Maylands Foreshore.

“The concept plan provides an overview of key elements to be included in the future redevelopment of Maylands Waterland and carries a total project cost of between $6.6 and $7.6 million.

“The redevelopment would be split into two stages, with facilities identified in stage one proposed to be ready for families to enjoy by November 2021.

“These include a play pool (of up to 300mm deep), splash pad play area, community picnic area, accessible toilets and change areas, and space for food trucks.

“The cost for this first stage (Area A) is between $1.7 and $2.1million. It will be funded through a combination of developer contributions (cash in lieu), cost savings previously identified by staff and funds to be committed as part of the 2020/21 budget.

The second stage of the project (Area B) would include the addition of play pool (of up to 600mm deep), play space, an upgrade to plant and equipment, and changing rooms, additional community picnic and play areas and the refurbishment of the Maylands foreshore toilet.

Stage two of the redevelopment will be subject to final funding arrangements. We will work hard to advocate for funding from the State and Federal government for this important project on behalf of our community.

“We are keen to deliver a family friendly facility that is accessible to the whole community.

“Now that the concept plan has been approved the next step will be to work with industry experts to prepare more detailed design and project costings.

I would like to acknowledge and thank the Friends of Maylands Waterland for championing this project on behalf of the community, and particularly the members of the group who gave up their time to contribute to the Maylands Waterland working group.”
