As the Christmas season approaches, this year's Garage Sale Trail on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November is the perfect place to score a bargain, while helping the environment at the same time.

The City of Bayswater will join over 115 councils Australia wide who are putting people on the road to economic recovery by encouraging them to save money by shopping for and selling second-hand items at this year’s Garage Sale Trail.

As Garage Sale Trail heads into its tenth year, the multi-award-winning national community and sustainability event is gearing up to be one of the best yet. With over 400,000 people expected to participate across 16,000 garage sales nationally.

City of Bayswater Mayor Cr Dan Bull said the City was proud to support responsible and sustainable retail.

“Our community have shown us time and time again their ability to come together for a great cause, and the Garage Sale Trail is a chance for local people to find a great bargain, while creating awareness for reducing, reusing and recycling.

“If you’re not already hosting a sale, there’s still time to register. If you’re looking to buy - visit the City’s website for a map of all of the sales in your area.”

This year marks the first time that Australians can participate in Garage Sale Trail online with many sellers opting to host their sales via Facebook Live or Instagram, meaning residents can shop the Trail from the comfort of their home this year.

This virtual garage sale option is aimed at both keeping people COVID safe and also assisting community members in finding the most amazing pre-loved items possible – no matter where they live.

For those who prefer to haggle face to face, there will still be physical sales to attend with COVID safety measures and guidelines in place. Community members can check out what sales are happening in their area, nationally online, or register their own sale for free at garagesaletrail.com.au/bayswater.

Aside from being a fantastic opportunity to stock the Christmas stockings with second-hand treasures, Garage Sale Trail also reduces a tonne of waste.

It is predicted that over 2 million items are to be listed and diverted from landfill this year, making Garage Sale Trail a win for your wallet and for the planet too!

Shoppers can map out sales they’d like to visit physically or virtually by searching the map and creating a Trail at www.garagesaletrail.com.au/bayswater
