A chance to brighten the Christmas of others is just around the corner, with the City of Bayswater’s Annual Christmas Food Appeal.

Accepting non-perishable food items and gifts, the appeal aims to provide much needed items to families in need during the festive season.

City of Bayswater Mayor Cr Dan Bull encouraged everyone in the community who is able to spare an item or two to get involved.

“While Christmas is a wonderful time of year for most of us, it can also be a particularly hard time for more vulnerable members of our community," said Cr Bull.

"Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year has been a particularly challenging year - even more so for those already experiencing hardship.

“Simple items like pasta sauces, toiletries, tea, coffee or toys can really make a difference in the lives of people doing it tough this year.

“All donations will be going to The Salvation Army, which will go towards providing a range of essential services and help those experiencing hardship and isolation, or families battling to keep food on the table this Christmas.”

Non-perishable items can be donated at the following collection points from Monday 9 November to Thursday 10 December.

  • City of Bayswater Civic Centre, 61 Broun Avenue, Morley
  • Morley Library, 240 Walter Road West, Morley
  • Bayswater Library, King William Street, Bayswater
  • The RISE, 28 Eighth Ave, Maylands
  • Bayswater Waves Aquatic Centre, Broun Ave and Priestley Street, Embleton

Donations boxes will also be available at the City's Christmas Markets on Saturday 5 December at De Lacy Reserve, and Carols by Candlelight event on Saturday 19 December at Halliday Park.

Key items that can be donated for Christmas include tinned foods (fruits, vegetables, meats or fish), meal bases (pasta sauces, meal kits), cleaning and hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toilet paper, washing powder, baby care items) Christmas items (puddings, biscuits, napkins, tablecloths, bonbons) and food items (cereal, spreads and jams, tea and coffee, savoury biscuits, baby food).
