The City of Bayswater has been recognised at the LG Professionals Honour Awards for their Age Friendly Ambassador Program, which was designed to ensure older community members are engaged, connected and have the opportunity to have their voice heard on issues that affect them.

The program, supported by the Department of Communities, is a crowning achievement for the City and is facilitated by a network of eight passionate older adults from diverse backgrounds and varying ages (52 to 86 years of age), who have been empowered to become leaders within the community.

Mayor Dan Bull said he could not be more proud to be part of a Council that places such importance on the older members of our community.

"As a Council, we recognise the important role older people play and have been working closely with them to help us make the City a more age friendly place to live. The Age Friendly Ambassador Program is an invaluable part of this process.

“Our dedicated Age Friendly Ambassadors are helping us ensure our older adults are an active and connected part of our community – and they are making a significant impact.

"This truly is a program for seniors, delivered by seniors.

The Ambassadors act as a conduit between the City of Bayswater and older people. They are engaged as City registered volunteers and are trained and supported to link older people to practical information. They also provide feedback from older members of the community to the City at monthly meetings, are involved with place activation projects, and attend community events.

"The enthusiasm and passion with which our ambassadors have embraced their roles is contagious. As an organisation, we are learning from them every day.

"It's projects like these that help us build stronger communities.

The LG Professionals Honour Awards celebrate projects that demonstrate outstanding contributions to the local government industry. This is the second year in a row the City has been recognised in the category of Connecting Communities, following their win in 2019 for their Participatory Budgeting project.
